Winnrose Farm is a 3rd generation Kentucky family farm that began in 1954 when the author's father, who was a veterinarian, purchased the property for a dairy farm. Since that time the family has enjoyed raising cattle, chickens, goats, horses, cats, and dogs. A 200 year old springhouse and graveyard adds history to the farm that has offered hayrides, a swimming pond, creeks and nature trails to explore and enjoy. Peck is one of the numerous animals that enjoy the farm. Nancy is a columnist and author and the executive director of the Oldham County History Center. She has published several books and writes a weekly history column as well as conducts oral histories. She has conducted nature and history programs for children and enjoys teaching outdoors. Nancy's study and dissertation on wildlife conservationist and environmental historian, Aldo Leopold (1887-1948) influenced her perspective for writing and teaching. Lauren Theiss is an artist and art therapist, who currently provides therapeutic services to school age children and their families in Louisville, Ky. Lauren attended Centre College where she studied oil painting, art history, and psychology, and later completed a Masters in Education, with a concentration in art therapy, at the University of Louisville. Lauren's artwork was featured on the NBC show, Parenthood. She is often inspired by the beauty around her, from simple objects in her home to the precious moments captured at WinnRose Farm.
